About this grant
This grant will enable Mott Community College to continue to administer the Smart Teachers as Role Models (STAR) Initiative. Modeled after the Call Me Mister program at Clemson University, the initiative is aimed at increasing the number of African-American and Latino male teachers in Flint area elementary and secondary schools. The initiative is a collaboration between Baker College, Mott Community College, and the University of Michigan-Flint and is designed to provide participants in teaching education programs with professional development supports to ensure that they are prepared to teach in K-12 classrooms. Recommended support will allow the grantee to continue the replication and implementation of the Smart Teachers as Role Models Initiative.
