Working Poor Families Project

About this grant

The Working Poor Families Project (WPFP) was designed to educate the broad public, as well as key stakeholders, about how state workforce development policies and practices can benefit working poor adults.This grant will enable WPFP to extend their work to five new states. These states will use the framework of indicators to enhance their capacity to educate state policymakers and to identify specific conditions and areas for improvement. Each new state will produce a final State Policy Assessment Report that presents data and analyses on key conditions and policies as well as offers recommendations and an overall agenda for strengthening state policies. In addition, the project will continue to partner with 20 state organizations that have completed their first year in WPFP and produced a State Policy Assessment Report.During the past year, WPFP engaged nonprofit organizations in four new states and continued working with the original 16 states; generated national and state data; convened two cross-state meetings and one policy academy; produced a policy brief; and developed working relationships with important national state policy initiatives such as the National Governor’s Association Sector Academy.
