About this grant
Downtown Flint is currently undergoing several revitalization and redevelopment efforts. One project involves redeveloping a block of buildings for residential, retail and commercial use. The block of buildings directly across the street from the project, however, is presently unoccupied and underutilized. Improving the vacant block at the same time would contribute to a more successful revitalization effort.Funding will enable the Genesee Institute to conduct a thorough analysis and provide recommendations for the development of the vacant buildings. Activities will include interviews with stakeholders and background research; site analysis; development and testing of alternative redevelopment concepts; financial and market evaluation; and final report and recommendations. The Genesee Institute, an affiliate of the Genesee County Land Bank, was created to provide technical assistance to jurisdictions interested in establishing their own land banks and to offer opportunities for planning and research on issues related to vacant properties, sustainable neighborhoods and urban sprawl.
