About this grant

During the past two decades, the International Rivers Network has worked with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and affected communities in developing countries to protect rivers from the destructive impacts of large dams and to promote sustainable alternatives for energy and water resource management. Due to major organizational changes and changes in global political discussion on international financial institution support for large infrastructure development, the network will undertake a strategic planning process.Funding will enable the network to reflect on and evaluate achievements during the past five years and develop core strategies for the coming five years. The strategic plan will be used to develop an operational plan for each of the network’s program areas as well as for internal communications, fundraising and organizational infrastructure. The new approach will help the network link global policy debates on dam construction and energy and water use to climate change, poverty, development, biodiversity loss and human rights. The International Rivers Network, founded in 1985, supports a global network of NGOs, grassroots groups and communities dedicated to protecting the environmental integrity of rivers and watersheds in developing countries.
