About this grant
This grant will support the State Environmental Leadership Program’s efforts to inform policymakers and the public about federal budget proposals under consideration in Congress. In order to reduce the deficit, the federal government is considering significant cuts in a range of spending programs, many of which help working families and protect the environment.Funding will enable the program to increase the capacity of state environmental councils to engage in discussions regarding budget and tax issues; develop the capacity to advance alternative environmental and overall budgets at the state and federal levels; and build and strengthen links between the low-income and environmental groups at the state level. The State Environmental Leadership Program, established in 1989, is a nationwide network of more than 50 independent, nonprofit, public interest, multi-issue environmental advocacy organizations that work to strengthen state environmental protection policies.
