About this grant

More than 2,000 individuals have arrived in Michigan in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and more are expected in the near future. In cooperation with the Council of Michigan Foundations and the Office of Foundation Liaison, the Michigan Association of United Ways created the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund in Michigan to meet the special needs of these displaced individuals and families.Funding will enable the Michigan Association of United Ways (MAUW) to oversee the disbursement of funds at the local level. In addition, the MAUW will develop a basic report to track individuals who are served and the specific needs being met, and share such information with participating foundations on a periodic basis.MAUW works to identify community needs, and form collaborations with and raise funds for other service providers and service funders.
