The nonprofit sector in South Africa faces a number of challenges, ranging from leadership to governance to financial sustainability. Nonetheless, the nonprofit sector plays a crucial role in strengthening democracy in the country and is vital to local development and the elimination of poverty.Funding will enable the Tiyakene Development Fund to work with Mott grantees in South Africa on a nonprofit organization institution-building project to improve their organizational systems, financial health and management capacity. The fund will review the systems and operations of six to eight organizations; monitor their financial and organizational systems; and provide ongoing support to key management and administrative personnel. The fund is made up of a group of development specialists with more than 40 years of collective experience in working in the development and nonprofit sector. Its mission is to help nonprofits build their capacity to independently meet the development challenges in their environment.
