About this grant
With 17 automotive plants slated to be closed during the next two years, the Michigan automobile industry is at immediate risk of losing thousands of jobs. The impact on the entire Michigan economy, including supplier job losses, could result in the loss of at least 250,000 jobs.Multiyear funding will enable the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) to establish a program for forming industry collaborations; help the industry compete in global markets; and form a public/private job training consortium to develop a training curriculum that will help produce the internationally competitive autoworker of the future.CAR conducts a wide variety of research related to the automobile industry. It maintains strong relationships with industry, government agencies, universities, research institutes, labor organizations and other stakeholders in the international automotive community.
