This grant will provide partial support to the Committee for Economic Development (CED) for the first year of "Making Washington Work," an effort to help promote integrity, accountability and transparency in government.Funding will support research on various dimensions of the current political environment to help inform CED subcommittee discussions. During the first year of the project, CED will begin two papers covering issues such as lobbying abuses, ethical standards, redistricting and citizen apathy. In future years, additional papers may be commissioned to cover further aspects of the Washington political environment. CED also will engage in complementary outreach efforts, including forums, media outreach and polling. The Committee for Economic Development is an independent, nonpartisan organization of business and education leaders dedicated to policy research on major economic and social issues.
