About this grant

The American Institute for Social Justice provides training, research and technical support services to community organizations affiliated with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). In New Orleans, ACORN and the institute have a rich history of community work, concentrating organizing and training efforts in the poorest sections of the city. As a result of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans ACORN lost its national office and equipment. Funding will enable the institute to provide increased and intense technical assistance in the Gulf Coast region devastated by the hurricane, including establishing a staff presence in the region and helping New Orleans ACORN to develop a comprehensive reconstruction plan.
