About this grant

The Berridge Hotel, located in a historic downtown Flint neighborhood, is a single-room occupancy hotel that houses a largely transient population. The area is being developed to preserve and promote Flint’s history, improve the local perceptions of the community, and encourage future reinvestment in the area.Funding will enable the Genesee County Land Bank Authority to acquire and renovate the Berridge Hotel and an adjacent building. The property will be redeveloped into 20 lease-to-own condominiums that will be affordable to families with up to 80 percent area median income. In addition, there will be two commercial spaces on the first floor of the hotel.Originally created in 1999, the Genesee County Land Reutilization Council became the Genesee County Land Bank in 2004 after statewide land bank legislation was passed in Michigan. The land bank works to encourage reinvestment in residential, commercial and industrial properties that it has acquired through the tax foreclosure process.
