About this grant
Micro-enterprise development can provide employment for citizens and opportunities to increase their incomes. In order to effectively integrate micro-enterprise development into the state of Michigan’s economic development strategy, this grant will enable the Corporation for a Skilled Workforce (CSW) – in collaboration with the Aspen Institute – to conduct an environmental assessment of micro-enterprise development services currently available in Michigan; assess demand and/or market for business development and financing services to serve emerging and existing small business entrepreneurs; analyze how Michigan’s micro-enterprise development field can strengthen its role in supporting the goals of the state of Michigan’s broader economic development and entrepreneurship strategies; and create a report outlining the gaps and barriers that need to be addressed to create a more conducive environment for micro-enterprise development in Michigan. CSW – based in Ann Arbor, Michigan – was established in 1991 as a workforce development policy and change management organization. Its mission is to help communities thrive in a knowledge and skill-driven economy.
