About this grant
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Michigan is one of the largest chapters in the world with more than 12,400 participants and 39 area programs including Area 13, which serves Genesee and Lapeer counties. Area 13 Special Olympics currently serves 1,158 athletes, aged 8 and older, in 18 sports throughout the year.This grant is will provide matching funds to the Area 13 Sponsor-A-Champ program to ensure that Special Olympics programming is available to local, Flint-area athletes. In 2006, Area 13 activities will provide training and competition programming for athletes of all ages and abilities.
