About this grant
The program goal is to combat corruption, reduce poverty levels, and promote sustainable development in Montenegro by supporting good governance and public participation in decisionmaking processes. To this end, the Network for the Affirmation of NGO Sector – MANS will raise awareness about mechanisms for public participation in decisionmaking processes, build the capacity of the nonprofit sector to facilitate public participation, and monitor implementation and enforcement of anticorruption regulations. During the grant period, the grantee will promote accountability and transparency in governmental decisionmaking with the goal of reducing corruption and fighting organized crime. During 2010-2012, the grantee helped to improve the implementation of Montenegro’s freedom of information law, worked with parliament to institutionalize citizen-based monitoring of sessions and increase information about parliamentarians and decisionmaking processes, and increased citizen engagement and governmental transparency on planning and development decisions. The grantee also engaged in regular strategic planning and staff development activities. Based in Podgorica, the grantee is a leading organization in the fields of advocacy, monitoring, and capacity building in Montenegro.
