About this grant

The Fair Housing Center was established in 1997 by Legal Services of Eastern Michigan (LSEM) in response to persistent housing discrimination in Genesee County. The center conducts testing and enforcement of housing discrimination and seeks to eliminate discrimination through outreach and education in Flint and Genesee County. A contractual error caused by the regional office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has resulted in a one-year loss of funding for this program. This grant will provide one year of interim funding for the Fair Housing Center.LSEM is a nonprofit law firm that has offered free civil legal assistance to the poor since 1951. It currently serves both urban and rural areas in 10 mid-Michigan counties from three offices, and is organized into legal specialties so that clients have the greatest focus of legal expertise available to them.
