About this grant

This grant will enable the East West Centre Sarajevo to adapt and produce a theatrical piece based on Christopher Marlowe’s "Dr. Faustus" to be performed throughout the Balkans from June 2006 through March 2008. The underlying values of tolerance, diversity, multiculturalism, and meaningful collaboration among different ethnic societies will be featured in this production. Haris Pasovic, a successful and well-respected Bosnian playwright, will produce the play. He recently directed and produced Hamlet, placing it in a Muslim-Turkish setting, and also Romeo and Juliet, which focused on religious diversity, tolerance and understanding.The organization’s mission is to create artwork in the domain of theater, film, television, literature and other media as a means to understanding and promoting democratic principles and values and advocating for dialogue, exchanges and the increase of understanding between Eastern and Western cultures.
