About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen an independent public policy community in Belarus. The Pontis Foundation will work with the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Studies to foster a network of policy fellows who will examine specific policy issues and present proposals and analyses accessible to both the public and government. Drawing on Slovak experience, the partners will publish the Belarus Yearbook, an annual digest of data and analysis incorporating the work of policy fellows. An international conference examining policy options for Belarus will be held in Ukraine. Finally, the Pontis Foundation will work to cement its ties to the independent analytical community in Belarus by strengthening the organizational capacity of its Belarusian partner, the emergence of which, in 2007, is the key result of the first phase of this project. Established in 1997, the grantee supports the development of the nonprofit sector in Slovakia as well as democratization programs in Cuba, Serbia, Iraq, and Belarus.
