About this grant

The program goal is to strengthen an independent public policy community in Belarus. The Pontis Foundation will work with the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Studies to develop the latter’s institutional capacity through a program of training and mentoring. Together they will foster a network of policy fellows and aspiring analysts who will examine specific policy issues and present analyses accessible to the public and government through annual policy conferences and in publications like the Belarus Yearbook. In 2008-2010, the partners held two international policy conferences, including an unprecedented event in Minsk held under the patronage of the European Union delegation, which included a large number of government attendees. They also published and distributed two editions of the Belarus Yearbook, an authoritative analysis of key policy issues facing Belarus. Established in 1997, the Pontis Foundation supports the development of the nonprofit sector in Slovakia as well as democratization programs in Cuba, Serbia, Iraq, and Belarus.
