About this grant
This grant will enable the University of California – Irvine to carry out further research based on the Mott-funded Study of Promising After-school Programs. The project will consist of a series of studies focused on understanding the specific features and practices of the programs that facilitate positive participant outcomes. Findings from these follow-up studies will provide the field with detailed information aimed at improving the effectiveness of programs, particularly for a growing Latino youth population. Specifically, the projects will identify the impact of structural, organizational, content and process features on participants’ academic, social, psychological and behavioral development and the structural and cultural features of afterschool programs that enhance Latino participants’ academic and social development as well as their emotional and physical well-being.
