About this grant
The program goal is to increase civic activism and community engagement in Ukraine. Civic Network OPORA will work to strengthen regional networks of citizen activists throughout the country who can engage effectively in both regional and national advocacy campaigns and watchdog activities. The grantee will continue its monitoring of independent university entrance tests and subsequent enrollment procedures. It will conduct nonpartisan, long- and short-term public monitoring of upcoming parliamentary elections. In 2009-2011, it expanded the number of housing reform resource centers from four to ten. Its efforts to monitor standardized university entrance exams and subsequent admissions processes have contributed to the maintenance of these exams in the face of political and other pressure. Established in 2006, the grantee has conducted a number of successful local, regional, and national public interest campaigns on issues ranging from local historic preservation to a national health promotion policy.
