About this grant
The program goal is to increase civic activism and community engagement in Ukraine. To this end, this grant supports the organizational and programmatic development of the Civic Network OPORA, a Ukrainian nongovernmental organization with offices throughout the country. During the grant period, the grantee will engage citizens to address issues, such as education and housing, through monitoring, participation in decisionmaking, and advocacy. The grantee will also involve citizens in parliamentary oversight activities and conduct nonpartisan public monitoring of the 2015 local elections. In 2013-2015, Civic Network OPORA organized domestic, citizen-led election monitoring of presidential, parliamentarian, and local elections. The grantee also supported housing associations in seven communities, raising residents’ awareness of energy efficiency and housing rights and responsibilities. In the field of higher education reform, the grantee promoted transparency in admissions processes by increasing citizen-monitoring and collaborating effectively with the Ministry of Education and Science.
