About this grant
The program goal is to increase civic activism and community engagement in Ukraine. During the grant period, the Civic Network "OPORA" will engage citizens to address issues around housing, communal services, and energy efficiency. The grantee will also conduct parliamentary oversight activities and nonpartisan public monitoring of the 2019 presidential and parliamentary elections. In 2015-2017, Civic Network "OPORA" organized domestic, citizen-led election monitoring of local elections using innovative mobile monitoring teams. Its observation work received over 1,400 mentions in varied media outlets. The network also participated in over 300 events to support greater effectiveness of housing associations, raising residents’ awareness of energy efficiency and housing rights and responsibilities. In the field of higher education reform, Civic Network "OPORA" completed its efforts on monitoring entrance exams, with 90 percent of respondents confirming trust in the testing process. Established in 2006, Civic Network "OPORA" is an independent, national network of civic activists whose mission is to develop Ukrainian society on the principles of transparent policymaking.
