About this grant
The Diakonia Council of Churches is an interchurch agency working with churches and church organizations to promote justice, development, and peace in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. It works through member churches to promote effective engagement in social justice issues, as well as issues related to economic and environmental justice. The Social Justice Programme fosters peace, healing, and reconciliation within various communities. It also works to increase people’s participation in democratic governance, particularly at the local level, in order to give them a voice in government planning processes. Past support assisted the grantee to convene workshops, seminars, and briefings at the community level on topics including stress and trauma, conflict and mediation, and democracy and governance. The grantee also supports groups to implement income-generating projects to improve their livelihoods.
