About this grant
The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation was formed by leading members of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission. It focuses on the challenges of reconciliation and nation building in South Africa, following the many years of racial conflict as a result of the system of apartheid. The Institute works with communities affected by conflict; conducts research on issues of transitional justice and reconciliation; supports efforts aimed at peace building; and uses the experience of South Africa’s peaceful transition to democracy to assist and advise societies in other parts of the world. This grant will enable the institute to implement its work and various programs on reconciliation and transitional justice in South Africa and the broader African continent over the next two years.
