About this grant

The program goal is to support the development of local philanthropy and community foundations in Bulgaria. During the grant period, the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe will provide funding to the existing community foundations in Bulgaria to match their locally raised grantmaking funds and strengthen their fundraising capacities. The trust was established in 2000 by a consortium of private grantmaking foundations, including the Mott Foundation. The trust supports the development and long-term stabilization of civil society in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. During 2001-2007, the trust disbursed over $35.7 million in grants. This grant increase will enable the Bulgarian community foundations to increase the level of locally raised regranting funds and explore new funding sources and strategies.
