About this grant

During the grant period, the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe will provide funding to the 10 existing community foundations in Bulgaria to match their locally raised grantmaking funds and strengthen their fundraising capacities. In addition, the trust will cooperate closely with the Association of Community Foundations in Bulgaria to promote the concept of community foundations and to increase the level of resources available to them from private and public sources. The trust was established in 2000 by a consortium of private grantmaking foundations, including the Mott Foundation. The trust supports the development and long-term stabilization of civil society in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. Between 2001 and 2005, the trust disbursed over $22.6 million in grants.
