About this grant

This grant will enable the Southern Education Foundation to continue to promote and build policy strategies and actions that address the needs of high school dropouts in the South. In the most recent phase of this project, the grantee assisted stakeholders in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi in utilizing federal funds to address the issue of dropouts and identifying discrepancies under new mandates to calculate/report high school graduation rates. During the next phase, the grantee will continue to make the dropout issue a top policymaking priority in the South by examining the correlation between high rates of school suspensions and low rates of high school graduation, particularly for minority males, across the broader region.
