About this grant
Following Hurricane Katrina, many young people in the South had their educations temporarily interrupted or postponed indefinitely. Graduation rates in many southern states are some of the lowest nationwide, and the storm’s impact is putting more students at risk of not graduating. This grant will enable the Southern Education Foundation to monitor dropout rates in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi in an effort to begin laying the groundwork for efforts that advance policies and practices to address the needs of dropouts in the South. The Southern Education Foundation is a Georgia-based regional public charity that works to improve education policy and practice in the South.
