About this grant

This general purpose grant to Urgewald will support its efforts to establish strong, binding environmental and social standards for international financial institutions and to garner ongoing public support for responsible and accountable financial institutions. To achieve these goals, Urgewald undertakes research, education, and advocacy efforts with a global network of local communities, nongovernmental organizations, and other partners. This grant will support Urgewald’s continued services to nongovernmental organizations from developing and transition countries where German companies and banks are involved; policy advocacy efforts to ensure progressive German policies and decisions within the multilateral development banks; oversight of Germany’s export credit agency and other similar government-backed financial instruments; dialogues with private banks on developing progressive policies and practices; and consumer and general public education on the impact of German investments on people and the environment in developing countries.
