About this grant

The Association of University Legal Aid Institutions Trust promotes access to justice for poor and marginalized communities through fostering partnerships between legal aid institutions attached to universities in South Africa and community-based advice offices. The Association of University Legal Aid Institutions Trust has provided support to community-based advice offices to ensure that they effectively provide legal and related services to the country’s poor. Project activities have included training and mentorship to paralegals working in community-based advice offices, capacity building assistance to advice offices, backup legal services to paralegals, direct legal assistance to indigent communities, and workshops to inform people about their rights and how to access them. The grantee will continue with these activities, and strengthen networks and collaboration among institutions working in the community-based advice office sector.
