About this grant

The Association of University Legal Aid Institutions Trust promotes access to justice for poor and marginalized communities through fostering partnerships between legal aid institutions attached to universities in South Africa and community-based advice offices. The grantee has provided support to community-based advice offices to ensure that they effectively provide legal and related services to the country’s poor. Past support has enabled the grantee to conduct workshops to inform people about their rights and how to access them; train and mentor paralegals working in community-based advice offices on various aspects of the law; provide backup legal services to paralegals; and assist poor people with free legal advice and related services. This grant will support the grantee to continue supporting paralegals to provide legal services to poor people and to strengthen networks and collaboration among institutions working in the community-based advice office sector.
