About this grant
Isandla Institute is a policy research organization that focuses on the development of effective partnerships between government and the nonprofit sector, especially in terms of poverty alleviation. It coordinates the Good Governance Learning Network, an alliance of 16 South African nonprofit organizations that promotes good local governance. Network members have undertaken joint research and advocacy activities on issues including public participation, access to municipal information, municipal performance management and budgeting, and corruption. A report was produced and published in 2008, providing a civil society commentary on the state of governance in South Africa. Isandla Institute took over the coordination of the network from the Foundation for Contemporary Research in 2008, and this grant will support Isandla Institute to continue implementing activities that promote advocacy, networking, and sharing of experiences among civil society organizations working in the area of governance.
