About this grant
Isandla Institute is a policy research organization that focuses on the development of effective partnerships between government and the nonprofit sector, especially in terms of poverty alleviation. It coordinates the Good Governance Learning Network, a network of South African nongovernmental organizations that promotes participatory, effective, accountable, and pro-poor local governance. Through previous support, members of the Good Governance Learning Network undertook research that explored partnerships between government and communities in the delivery of basic services like water, electricity, and housing. The network also published the annual State of Local Governance Reports. The 2011 report was titled "Recognising Community Voice and Dissatisfaction" and paved the way for fruitful engagement between members of the network and government in exploring ways to improve participatory local governance. This grant will support Isandla Institute to continue implementing activities of the Good Governance Learning Network.
