About this grant

The Isandla Institute works to promote poverty alleviation and human rights by fostering effective partnerships between government and the nonprofit sector. It promotes dialogue and exchange, policy research, networking, and information dissemination on issues related to local governance and democracy. The grantee coordinates the Good Governance Learning Network, a network of South African nonprofits that promote participatory, effective, accountable and pro-poor local governance. Previous support enabled the grantee to publish two state of local governance reports titled "Active Citizenship Matters" in 2013 and "Community Resilience and Vulnerability in South Africa" in 2014. This grant will support the Isandla Institute to continue implementing activities of the Good Governance Learning Network such as producing knowledge through research, promoting learning among members, building strong partnership with local government, and producing annual state of local governance reports.
