About this grant

Michigan has much to gain from conserving and wisely managing its water resources, which help define the state and support its economy. The Great Lakes Compact and the new Michigan-specific programs implementing it are precedent-setting tools for better water management. The Michigan Environmental Council, which works to protect vital water resources around the state, provided strong leadership in the development phase of the compact and new state programs. With continued support from the Mott Foundation, the council will work to ensure that the state’s new water programs are effectively implemented and that communities are fully engaged in the process of water management.
