About this grant

This grant to Public/Private Ventures will support the research, planning, and implementation of alternative staffing programs in New Orleans, Louisiana and in Gulfport, Mississippi. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that Hurricane Katrina has resulted in the loss of more than 400,000 jobs across the Gulf Coast region. Additionally, many of the new reconstruction jobs are being staffed by day-labor brokers. Alternative staffing programs, which are temporary staffing companies owned and operated by community-based agencies, will connect residents to employment and help ensure that workers receive the compensation and protections they are entitled to under the law.
