About this grant

The Brookings Institution Metropolitan Policy Program is beginning a multiyear effort to help revitalize America’s older industrial cities. The project builds from work begun in 2005 to provide an empirically grounded definition of a weak market city, identify those cities that fit the definition, and produce a framing report that provides leaders with a clearer understanding of the major demographic and market forces affecting older industrial cities. The primary goal of the project is to provide guidance and recommendations on the policy reforms necessary to improve the economic competitiveness of these cities.
