About this grant
In their 2004 report, Sasaki Associates, Inc., recommended transforming Third Avenue into a signature street to provide an improved connection between Kettering University and the University of Michigan-Flint, as well as to support ongoing revitalization efforts in central Flint. This grant to the City of Flint will provide partial support for a $5.2 million reconstruction of Third Avenue and reconfiguration from four lanes to two lanes with a new center turn lane. Additionally, the project will include a streetscape enhancement designed to create an attractive thoroughfare, new lighting for pedestrians and vehicle traffic, a bicycle lane, sidewalk benches, enhanced crosswalks, and plantings. The project will be environmentally friendly by creating rain gardens for water runoff.
