About this grant

This grant increase will provide additional support for "Journalism That Matters", an initiative of the Journalism/Communications department at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. The overall goal of the initiative is to facilitate critical discussion on the future and sustainability of journalism. Its unique approach is to assemble editors, publishers, academics, entrepreneurs, and independent journalists who focus on defining the ownership, management, location, and sustainability of "next newsroom" prototypes. Additional funds will be used to support a conference on June 4-5, 2008, at the University of Minnesota. The University of Massachusetts-Amherst, the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system, was established in 1867 as a land-grant agricultural college.
