About this grant

This grant will support Save the Children’s summer programs in New Orleans and community development work in transitional housing sites. Transitional housing sites are temporary trailer park homes for families who lost their homes during Hurricane Katrina. By supporting 11 summer programs for children in southeast Louisiana, Save the Children is helping community-based organizations provide safe, enriching environments for over 8,000 children and helping working parents ensure their children are cared for during the day when school is not available. Save the Children will also bring their Safe and Protective Communities Project to Louisiana, which helps residents build a sense of community and empowers them to increase safety for children, raise community awareness, and identify solutions to community problems.
