About this grant
Over the past decade, Brazilian development finance in South America has been fueling a wave of investments in regional energy and infrastructure that is pressuring sensitive ecosystems, including the greater Amazon rainforest. Friends of the Earth – Brazilian Amazonia, a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to promoting sustainable and transparent development policies and practices, is working to ensure that these public and private investments are subject to the highest standards of transparency and accountability, as well as environmental and social safeguards. The principle focus of this work is to increase the sustainability criteria used by the Brazilian Development Bank, which is currently the largest public funder of energy and infrastructure projects in South America.
