About this grant
Last November, Michigan voters overwhelmingly supported a ballot initiative designed to eliminate affirmative action in public employment and education in the state. Although the outcome of the ballot initiative was disappointing for advocates of affirmative action, important opportunities remain for continuing and reshaping conversations around race, equity, and diversity in Michigan. This grant to Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion will support a conference in late 2007 to review the current legal and social framework for diversity programs in the wake of Proposal 2, create avenues to provide members with best practices around equity issues in a post-affirmative action environment, and work toward beginning to create a framework to facilitate ongoing research and information dissemination regarding the impact of Proposal 2.
