About this grant

This grant will enable the Harlem Children’s Zone to pilot and develop a program exclusively for black and Latino males. The Harlem Children’s Zone is a comprehensive, community-building initiative focused on improving outcomes for poor children and their families in Harlem. This initiative will provide 200 fifth- and sixth-grade minority males with intensive academic, mentoring, social development, and recreational activities to help channel them toward more positive pursuits. Through this initiative, the Harlem Children’s Zone will also track and follow the participants in this pilot throughout high school and college. This initiative will also supplement existing Harlem Children’s Zone afterschool programs.
