About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen the dialogue between nongovernmental organizations and European Union institutions. To this end, Social Platform will coordinate an informal working group of large nongovernmental organizations’ groupings or "platforms" working on the European Union level in eight sectors: social, environment, development, education, human rights, public health, women, and culture. The working group was created in 2002 to promote a transparent and structured dialogue between civil society and European Union institutions. During the grant period, the working group will raise awareness of the importance of European Parliament elections in 2009 among nongovernmental organizations, build cross-sector civil society alliances, and produce tools and resources for engaging nongovernmental organizations in debates related to the European Parliament elections. The working group will focus specifically on engaging nongovernmental organizations from the European Union new member states. Social Platform is based in Brussels and represents over 1,700 European social nonprofit organizations.
