About this grant
This grant provides renewal support for key initiatives at Kettering University, an anchor institution of higher education in the Flint community. In 2010, the university will focus its strategic attention on need-based scholarships; pre-college programs; marketing and fundraising efforts; laboratory equipment and upgrades; and collaboration with the Flint Cultural Center institutions on arts education programs for Kettering students. As a private university, Kettering has positioned itself to compete with lower cost public institutions by launching degree programs in high demand fields, building state-of-the-art laboratories, and establishing partnerships with institutions of higher education overseas and in the United States. The co-op experience continues to attract students, and applications in 2009 were at an all time high. According to the “U.S. News and World Report”, Kettering ranks second nationally for mechanical engineering programs. The value of its endowment in 2009 was $48 million.
