About this grant
This grant provides support for the research and writing of a book on the history of community foundations in the United States on the occasion of the 100th anniversary in 2014 of the establishment of the first community foundation. The author of the book is Eleanor Sacks, a historian who also has extensive practitioner and consulting experience in the community foundation field. The Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University is overseeing the project. Although the manuscript is not expected to be published until 2015, a preview booklet of the content, which will set the history of United States community foundations in a global context, will be available in 2014. The booklet will be shared at venues such as the biennial conference of the International Society for Third Sector Research in Muenster, Germany, and at the Council on Foundations’ fall conference for community foundations in Cleveland, Ohio.
