About this grant

This grant will enable School & Main Institute to continue to develop and model a new small high school design entitled Schools for the Future. Schools for the Future is an alternative and competency-based model designed especially for students two grade levels behind, including those who have dropped out and are now interested in earning a diploma and preparing for post-secondary education and career training. The grantee successfully launched the first Schools for the Future site in Jacksonville, Florida for 100 students in 2011 in partnership with Duval County Public Schools. Recommended support will allow the grantee to continue to develop the model, curriculum, and tools needed to support the ongoing implementation of the initial pilot site in Jacksonville, Florida, as well as support the start-up of the second pilot site in Detroit, Michigan in 2012.
