About this grant
This grant will enable School & Main Institute to continue to develop and model a new small high school design entitled Schools for the Future. Schools for the Future is a competency-based model designed for students who are multiple grade levels behind, including dropouts who are now interested in earning a diploma and going on to post-secondary study. In 2012, the grantee successfully opened the second Schools for the Future site in Detroit, Michigan for 104 students to complement the pilot site that was launched in 2011 in Jacksonville, Florida. Recommended support will allow the grantee to continue to develop the model, provide ongoing implementation support to sites in Detroit and Jacksonville, and move forward to open two to four new sites in Michigan and/or other states in 2014.
