About this grant
The program goal is to institutionalize effective methods of activating communities, increasing local resource mobilization, and promoting social investment in Russia. The Sluzhenye Association, located in Nizhny Novgorod, will expand its training program for social animators who will help mobilize and advise civic groups. It will increase the capacity of community-based, independent local activity centers to act as focal points for community planning and resource mobilization, while promoting efforts to link such local centers into a national network. The grantee will support the further development and geographic expansion of the Dobriy Nizhny (Kind Nizhny) charity festival organized collectively by the centers. In 2010-2011, the grantee expanded the network of local activity centers and social animators in the Volga region and was one of the first organizations to win a federal grant for socially oriented organizations. Established in 1994, the Sluzhenye Association is a leading provider of support and services for nongovernmental organizations and community leaders in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
