About this grant

The program goal is to institutionalize effective methods of activating communities, increasing local resource mobilization, and promoting social investment in Russia. The Sluzhenye Association, located in Nizhny Novgorod, will continue to expand the community of social animators and local activity centers through a series of annual training workshops and Webinars. It will also strengthen ties and cross-learning with other community-based civic initiatives across Russia through regular skill-sharing events. During 2012-2014, the grantee expanded the network of centers and animators in the Volga region. It supported over 30 microprojects ranging from establishing a sports club for at-risk youth to providing volunteer renovation services and supplies for low-income families to protect against winter cold. As part of the Dobriy Nizhny festival, the grantee also established an informal coalition of charities seeking to promote public trust in charitable activity. Established in 1994, the Sluzhenye Association is a leading provider of support and services for nongovernmental organizations and community leaders in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
